Description
This is not your average snowmobile safari!
Follow a professional fisherman and trapper on his daily routine, checking fishing nets and traps for willow grouse. A wild forest bird that some people call “forest chicken”.
Afterwards I will prepare a warm meal for you using whatever we catch that day. I bet you have never tasted food that is so fresh and healthy!*
This experience is totally unique and I do not know anybody else in northern Europe that offers this.

Detailed Itinerary:
Part 1: Checking Traps
You will be seated in a 6-person sled and towed by a snowmobile.
The tracks where I set my nets and traps are remote and not near any snowmobile roads or tracks used by other snowmobile tourism companies. So you will get a real taste of quiet nature and true wilderness.
On our way to the camp, we will check and harvest my fishing nets and willow grouse traps.
When you know how to read animal tracks, the forest has many stories to tell, and kids usually love this part.
If you are curious, you can definitely learn a lot about nature, animals, and harvesting food from the land. But you are also welcome to just lean back and enjoy the ride.
Want to try ice fishing yourself?

Part 2: Break
After about 1 hour of driving, we will arrive at my camp in the wilderness.
Accompanied by a hot drink, you can enjoy the crackling sounds and dancing flames of the wood stove. Within 20 minutes the tent is usually so warm that you can sit there in a T-shirt.

Part 3: Drive Home
After you enjoyed your meal at the camp we will drive back to the pick-up point. Keep your eyes open for auroras!

Culinary Experience
During our break, I will prepare a warm meal for you using whatever we catch that day.
Wilow grouse catches vary greatly. So most of the time the main ingredient will be whitefish.
Whitefish is the favorite fish of many Finns. It is in such high demand here, that fillets commonly retail for around 50€/kg. For reference, that is twice as much as a salmon filet!
It has a mild taste, so usually even people who do not eat fish like it.
Ice Fishing
I will bring an ice fishing rod for you and show you some of my favorite spots!
What To Bring
Dress warm! You will be sitting most of the time and while we have furs and blankets it can still get quite cold. I strongly recommend renting an overall which can be done at most hotels.
- Hat
- Gloves
- Long Underwear
- Warm Jacket
- Overall (if you have one)
- Warm Shoes (No Sneakers in temperatures below -5°C)
Pick-Up Point
I will be waiting for you on the Ivalojoki river, right next to the bridge.
